SR22 Insurance in Lakeland Florida.

SR 22 Lakeland FL

SR22 Insurance isn’t actually a type of auto insurance in Florida. In reality, SR22 is the name of the form used by auto insurance companies that is submitted to Florida’s Bureau of Financial Responsibility to prove the responsible party maintains the proper insurance and liability.

If you have ever been charged with a DUI, had a suspension for too many points on your license, or have been caught driving uninsured, you may be required to have an SR22. Carrying a policy that meets the requirements of an SR22 include having Property Damage Liability of at least 10,000 and a Personal Injury Protection of at least 10,000. In addition, you must carry a Bodily Injury Liability along with the minimum Florida No Fault insurance requirements. If you have to carry an insurance policy that is compliant with SR22, that would include carrying 10,000 per person and 20,000 per accident. The SR22 can also be fulfilled with just carrying a single limit of liability on your policy for 30,000.

If an SR22 form filing is mandated, you will end up paying a higher premium for your auto insurance. Contrary to popular belief, it isn’t because of the SR22 form, but the higher rate is a result of the reason you were required to have the SR22 such as a suspension, DUI, etc.

If you do not follow through and complete the filing of your SR22 and carry all required insurance on your policy, your license plate and driver’s license will most likely be suspended. In that case, you may have to pay reinstatement fees and the filing fee for your SR22 form.
